ABOUT

I paint because it is the most truthful way I have to be in the world.

ARTIST BIO

Born in Siberia and raised between cultures, Ivan relocated to Germany at a young age, finding in art a medium to express what words could not. His early practice evolved from skateboarding, graffiti, and hip hop into a disciplined and expressive approach to painting.

Ivan Gette creates abstract paintings of rare intensity and refined elegance. Guided by his philosophy of “abstract nihilism,” he captures instinct and intention in their purest form. Each painting is unique, irreproducible, and crafted with a precision that reflects a life of global travel and extraordinary experience.

Ivan's work has been exhibited internationally, including Parallel Vienna and Art Miami during Art Basel, and is held in private collections across Germany, Spain, the United States, India, the Netherlands, Austria, Lithuania, the United Arab Emirates, France, and Monaco, including prominent and influential collectors.

In 2022, Ivan founded Notagallery, an unconventional gallery approach that is the home for creativity, designed to connect emerging artists with art, music, and culture. Since its founding, the gallery has exhibited and opened its doors to more than 500 national and international artists, establishing a platform that is collaborative, experimental, and authentically driven.

WHY I PAINT

I work with color because it resists control. It moves, collides, blends, and disappears, just like thoughts, like time, like sensation. When I paint, I enter a state of presence. There is no plan, no script, only the encounter between material and surface. What matters is not the subject itself, but how it dissolves into the act of making.

I paint to search for freedom. Not to follow rules, but to break them. The act of painting is not about perfection or clarity. It is about listening inward, responding honestly, and trusting the unknown. I do not need a reason to paint. I need the space, the color, and the permission to let go.
